Faced with many perplexing problems, my husband and I turned to Christian Science early in our marriage, and quickly found, as we had been told, that through an understanding of God as taught in this Science, we could solve the myriad problems which beset mankind.
Just two days after I had begun the study of Christian Science and enlisted the help of a practitioner, I was permanently healed of spinal trouble which had resulted from poliomyelitis I had had in my teens and for which a surgeon had recommended a delicate operation as the only solution. Very shortly thereafter I was quickly and permanently freed from the smoking habit of many years' standing when I realized that a desire to smoke was no part of man, made in the image and likeness of God.
One day while we were visiting at our ranch some distance from the city, our twelve-year-old son caught his hand in a running engine. He was alone, quite some distance from the house. He told us later that he had repeated truths from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy all the way to the house. His father and I had spent a quiet morning in study of our two textbooks, the Bible and Science and Health, and we were grateful that the spiritualization of thought prepared us to meet the ugly picture presented by the material senses. The child had cut off the tip ends of two fingers, damaging both nails, and had lost considerable blood. We took steps to quiet the mounting fear by declaring audibly the truth of man's perfection as God's child and his immunity to accidents under God's perfect, uninterrupted government.
