THE APPOINTMENT

From the February 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"A door was opened unto me of the Lord" (II Cor. 2:12)

Opening the office door
(never closed in reality),
I pause a moment.
Father, what can I do
for You and Yours today?
Facing the city now,
I wait—patient, confident.

Thank You, Father, for them all,
Your angels thronging in,
for me to share all day
in unexpected, selfless ways;
and thank You for Your law
of right activity: Love,
turning over leaves of thought
until signs, unmistakable,
of the way the Master lived
and loved come to light!

Drawing the blind all the way,
shutting the door that shuts
none of Your loved ones out,
then down onto crowded streets
again, I keep rejoicing. Father,
grateful, grateful beyond words.
to have kept my appointment with You!
