"To be merciful, just, and pure"

From the February 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A student who joins The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, subscribes to its Tenets. The sixth and last tenet reads, "And we solemnly promise to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus; to do unto others as we would have them do unto us; and to be merciful, just, and pure."
Science and Health, p. 497;

Our earnest effort to fulfill the requirements of this and the other tenets effectually aids us in our demonstration of Christian Science. The entertainment of the lovely quality of mercy precludes the indulgence of harsh, unloving thoughts and impels us to express charity, compassion, patience, and forgiveness under all circumstances. When we show mercy toward others, we are apt to find mercy expressed toward ourselves. Christ Jesus stated, "Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy."
Matt. 5:7;

When we are motivated by justice and goodwill, we give credit where credit is due and do not allow selfishness or jealousy to influence us to withhold a generous acknowledgment of another's progress or worthwhile achievements. This constructive, loving attitude increases our own receptivity to spiritually imparted blessings. To be appreciated we find it requisite to appreciate others.
