A young woman seeking employment was granted an interview with an executive of an organization. The position available was most desirable and was one for which she felt well qualified. Arriving at the appointed hour, she was dismayed to find the reception room filled with other applicants for the same position. All were told to wait; but hours passed, and not one name was called. One by one the others in the room, becoming discouraged, rose and left, until at last only this young woman remained. She also was tempted to leave; but being a student of Christian Science, she had learned the importance of challenging discouragement and of not submitting to the impetuosity of mortal thinking.
She reasoned to herself that to the best of her ability she had turned for guidance to divine Mind and had clearly felt led to come to this place. She determined to continue to trust Mind's purposeful and always fruitful leading and to sit and wait patiently until she was led to do otherwise. After four hours the one whom she had been waiting to see suddenly appeared. He apologized for the long delay and explained that he had been detained in an important business meeting.
After a pleasant interview, during which the applicant was hired, the employer remarked that any one of the women who had filled the reception room earlier in the day would have had the necessary skills and abilities to fill the position satisfactorily. "However," he continued, "you proved through your example of patience how greatly you valued this position. You are the type of employee we want in this organization."
