Scientific Prayer

From the April 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

People are daily engaged in finding solutions. To reach correct and satisfactory conclusions, whether we are working out simple problems of choice or more complicated ones of business, social welfare, or health, our reasoning must be based on right premises. The relationship between premise and conclusion is brought out in Mrs. Eddy's statement, "An error in premise can never bring forth the real fruits of Truth." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 265;

In Christian Science all problems must be solved through scientific prayer. Such prayer is absolute. It is based on sound premises and reaches logical and harmonious conclusions—conclusions that bear practical witness to the perfectness of the starting point. Scientific prayer is founded on a fixed Principle—God. Its rules are in accord with the law of Truth and Love that governs every answer. The premises of specific truth essential for our reasoning in any particular case become clearer as we learn more about the divine Principle.

The solution of a problem is often termed healing because it corrects mistaken concepts and brings forth harmony in practical demonstration. Nothing can resist the healing power of true prayer. Consider the scope of Christ Jesus' prayers; consider also their effectiveness. No impossibles! No incurables! His prayers covered all human needs and healed them. The blind saw; the lame walked; the storm ceased; the hungry were fed. How potent these prayers were! We need to understand them today.
