Healing Is Based upon the Substance of Ideas

From the April 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Probably the subject of healing enters into the experience of nearly everyone today. Healing based upon matter has occupied people's thought for centuries without conclusive or lasting results. Christian Science awakens the individual to the fact that healing can truly result only from a change of thought based upon the ideas that express the substance of spiritual reality.

Spiritual ideas have definite, sound, resistless substance. They reflect the presence and power of God, divine Love. Acknowledged, admitted, made active in consciousness, they become alive and productive in the experience of the individual. In short, they heal.

In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy states: "Mind creates His own likeness in ideas, and the substance of an idea is very far from being the supposed substance of non-intelligent matter. Hence the Father Mind is not the father of matter." Science and Health, p. 257; Spiritual ideas spring forth from the divine Mind, which conceives them. Then the substance of an idea is the Mind that conceives it. What characterizes some of these ideas? Integrity, purity, intelligence, love, holiness, health, harmony, activity, supply, usefulness, together with countless other qualities.
