Our Abilities Are of God

From the April 1969 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Are we tempted to think of ourselves as clever human beings, efficient organizers, or as especially accomplished in some particular activity?

A belief in personal abilities or the belief that man is a source of ability could be likened to one of "the kingdoms of the world" Matt. 4:8; that Satan paraded before the Master, Christ Jesus, during his temptation in the wilderness. Although the view presented was from "an exceeding high mountain," it revealed nothing higher than a worldly kingdom and human glory. Evil can never show us anything real.

The Master's command, "Get thee hence," might mean: "Get away from the here and now of the presence of God. You cannot tempt me to believe in a source of good apart from God."
