Protecting a Lecture

From the May 1970 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Some years ago, before the doors were opened at a church where a Christian Science lecture was to be given, the crowd was lined up on the steps, across the pavement, and out to the street. One of a couple of passersby remarked, "Goodness! Look at that crowd! They must be giving something away in there tonight."

There are unprejudiced millions who have yet to learn of the most priceless gift in the world, Christian Science. Recently on a television program some young girls were asked to state their goals. One of them replied: "My goal is to find out what God really is. Is He a person or a thing? Just what is He?" Christian Science lectures are making available to such inquirers the concept of a living, ever-present God instead of the "dead" god of an outgrown theology. They present the truth of God, good, and His perfect creation.

Members of a church presenting a lecture must take care not to become so busy with the physical facets of their arrangements that they neglect the most important preparation of all. They should open their hearts as well as their edifice to the sick and discouraged. All of their activities for the lecture should be attended by unbounded gratitude and by the compassionate, tender expression of divine Love. Listening for God's direction instead of human will to show the steps to be taken to feed His sheep, being willing to let God take control and to obey rejoicingly His directives, and striving to practice His qualities open the way for divine guidance.
