Christian Science and the Other Churches

Today Christianity urgently needs the love and support of every Christian Scientist. Most of all, it needs his clear discernment of the spiritual concept of Church, undergirding the human institution.

Also, the warmth of his love in everyday interreligious situations is greatly needed. If one's husband or wife, friend, neighbor, or roommate is of another faith, the Christian Scientist can find the right way to communicate his genuinely felt respect and appreciation. He can also find opportunities to show how highly he regards the devotion and good work of those active in other churches in his own community.

Mrs. Eddy, aware of the contribution of the Christian churches in her day, was quick to voice her appreciation. She says, for instance: "Among the list of blessings infinite I count these dear: Devout orthodox parents; my early culture in the Congregational Church; the daily Bible reading and family prayer; my cradle hymn and the Lord's Prayer, repeated at night; my early association with distinguished Christian clergymen, who held fast to whatever is good, used faithfully God's Word, and yielded up graciously what He took away."Message to The Mother Church for 1901, p. 31;
