The Necessity of Receptivity

From the May 1970 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Our radio set is receptive to a program only when it is tuned to the wavelength of the broadcasting transmitter. Otherwise, as far as we are concerned, both the transmitter and the program could be nonexistent. But we all know from experience that accurate tuning does bring a radio program vividly to life, and, by the same token, proves the existence—though unseen —of the transmitter.

Christian Science reveals the reality of an infinite transmitter—something beyond and above all material concepts. This is the divine Mind, or creative Principle, called God, who, through the law of reflection, is imparting life, substance, and intelligence to His creation. The power, presence, and love of this Principle can be proved by anyone who strives to tune the quality of his thoughts and acts to the divine standard of goodness. Mrs. Eddy writes, "For true happiness, man must harmonize with his Principle, divine Love; the Son must be in accord with the Father, in conformity with Christ."Science and Health, p. 337;

The Christ is Truth, which reveals the fact of man's spiritual selfhood and its unity with God. Jesus was so receptive to the power of this true idea that it made him the most effective healer of all time. The purity and stillness of his thought tuned him to the divine nature. This enabled him to reach the thought of those who were receptive to his word, and to heal them of disease-producing fear, ignorance, or sin.
