Face Up to Mental Malpractice and Nullify It

From the May 1970 issue of The Christian Science Journal

We should be alert to the claims of mental malpractice to defend ourselves properly against this foe. Recognizing that it is an enemy prods us to face up to it and handle it properly. How can we prevent or cancel out the effects of malpractice unless we know exactly what it is and how it claims to operate?

Malpractice as understood in Christian Science is the erroneous belief that one can be adversely affected by another individual's thought, or misconception, about him. It is the illusion that hate, anger, willpower, envy, lust, directed specifically toward an individual, can wrongly influence that person and cause him suffering.

What is our protection against the aggressive false belief called malpractice? Paul tells us: "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places."Eph. 6:11, 12; It is of primary importance to remember that malpractice is just one more lie of the devil, mortal mind. Christ Jesus' promise "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free"John 8:32; is eternally true and forever effective.
