The study of Christian Science has helped and healed me many times. One outstanding healing was that of hemorrhage. I was alarmed at the condition, so I called a friend who is a Christian Science practitioner, and I was healed when I realized the healing presence of divine Love sufficiently to see the powerlessness of this condition.
Another helpful experience was at the time I was in the Royal Naval Reserve. I was on a drill at Portsmouth and had to go to the diving school to undergo certain tests. The week's training went quite well until the final phase of the tests. The last examination had to be done in a decompression chamber. The compression became such as to cause heat. A sense of fear came over me. I felt as if I were passing out. I remembered a statement from the Bible which included the thought that depth would not separate me from God: "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Rom. 8:38, 39). I realized that I was in no way absent from the Love that was protecting me. I was healed instantaneously, and I was able to complete the examination successfully.
On another occasion, when I was manifesting a cold, I opened at random the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and started reading on page 16. My glance fell on the Lord's Prayer and its spiritual interpretation, and the word "all-harmonious" stood out. As I grasped the meaning of this word, the cold was gone. The text I pondered is:
