Christian Scientists are monotheists in the highest sense. They see the Biblical statement "The Lord our God is one Lord"Deut. 6:4. as a scientific fact. To students of this Science, the word "one" when applied to Deity is rich with meaning. It signifies an infinite indivisible Mind, divine Love, at once omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient. In Christian Science this boundless Being is seen to be the Soul of all, Truth itself, and when the full implications of God's infinite goodness dawn in thought, moral regeneration and physical healing are the result
This is the monotheism that lifts one beyond traditional theological concepts and proves its validity in practical terms. Indeed, throughout her writings Mrs. Eddy reiterates the fact of God's oneness and allness as the very basis of effective spiritual healing. In one instance she states with characteristic clarity and brevity, "The infinite is one, and this one is Spirit; Spirit is God, and this God is infinite good."The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 356. And then she adds, "This simple statement of oneness is the only possible correct version of Christian Science."
Peace and joy well up in thought as we get glimpses of the all-pervasiveness of God, divine Love, that He is the indivisible living substance and intelligence who creates the real identity of you and me and every man everywhere. Even beginners in Science, as they study Mrs. Eddy's writings and ponder what they read, can glimpse their actual coexistence with the one divine Life and experience the healing harmony this true sense imparts.
