The teaching of Christian Science gives me a sense of direction; it has become the law of Life for me. Therefore I am grateful with all my heart to its Discoverer and Founder, Mrs. Eddy.
More than twenty-seven years ago we came in contact with it in an unusual way which points to divine guidance. A friend was visiting us because of a business affair. In the ensuing conversation I asked him, for no particular reason, what he did when he was sick. He thereupon told us of some wonderful examples of the healing power of Christian Science, which so deeply touched my husband and me that we spontaneously accepted this teaching and I promptly declared that now we would not need a doctor anymore either. Soon afterward we had the opportunity of successfully applying this religion, even before we began its serious study.
Our little daughter awakened one morning with symptoms of the mumps, crying and complaining about great pain. Without any fear I took her on my knee and read to her from the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. After just a few minutes she stopped crying and declared that it didn't hurt her anymore, and after a few minutes more the symptoms of mumps had disappeared too. The same thing happened again the next morning but in a more severe form, only to disappear once and for all in the same way after I had read to her from the Bible and Science and Health.
