Chuch in Action

Metaphysical action

From the October 1971 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"When I began to experience some of the joy of demonstrating Christian Science, I wanted to do something for our church organization. I knew it had taken diligent work by many people to have a vehicle for presenting Christian Science to me. I wanted to repay and do my part.

"I never had enjoyed hearing people mulling over their problems or even mulling over my own. Yet I wanted to do something about them. The professionalism implicit in Journal listing would enable me to do something more than just listen, I felt. This has proved true.

"By 'doing something' I did not mean physical action. I meant metaphysical. It all began when the youngest of our two children started kindergarten. There were three hours a day which I could devote to something in addition to raising a family. There was no doubt but that this time would be spent in Christian Science—in basic research and in applying it in our world. I didn't wash a dish or make a bed—if these chores were undone—after the children left for school. I was so sure within myself that this time was to be used for the practice. People began calling me to pray for them, and soon I was called upon daily.
