August 26, 27, and 28 were three days packed with ideas, inspiration, and activity. This year students had taken a large part in the planning. A student advisory committee, which worked closely with the steering committee, came up with the theme from Miscellaneous Writings by Mary Baker Eddy (pp. 176, 177): "But what of ourselves, ... our times and obligations?" Featured student talks on racism, identity, and drug culture, student testimonies, and spontaneous floor response were an integral part of the meeting.
The opening session was chaired by Frederic M. Livezey, Manager of the Youth Division. After the welcome by Mrs. Lenore D. Hanks, Chairman of The Christian Science Board of Directors, the roll of countries represented was called by Brent H. Nettle, Supervisor of the College Organization Section. Students from over thirty countries responded.
Carl J. Welz, Editor of The Christian Science Journal, Sentinel, and Herald, stressed in his keynote address the urgent obligation to heal the ills of our times.
