In the Preface to Science and Health Mrs. Eddy, its author, makes this observation about Christian Science (pp. vii, viii): "Since the author's discovery of the might of Truth in the treatment of disease as well as of sin, her system has been fully tested and has not been found wanting; but to reach the heights of Christian Science, man must live in obedience to its divine Principle." From the very beginning of my study of Christian Science, the words "her system has been fully tested and has not been found wanting" have given me the necessary courage to cheerfully and eagerly seek in Christian Science the solution to every type of problem.
A series of healings of dental problems has been cause for much gratitude. One day the dentist informed me that I had an abscessed tooth and it would probably have to be removed. An appointment was made. After arriving home I telephoned a Christian Science practitioner, who gave me the following statement from Science and Health to hold to (p. 503): "Divine Science, the Word of God, saith to the darkness upon the face of error, 'God is All-in-all,' and the light of ever-present Love illumines the universe. Hence the eternal wonder,—that infinite space is peopled with God's ideas, reflecting Him in countless spiritual forms."
I prayed earnestly and persistently with this passage in mind and truly caught a glimpse of God's harmonious universe filled with perfect spiritual ideas, not subject to changeableness, decay, infection, or deterioration. I kept the appointment, and in further examining the tooth the dentist could find nothing wrong and said he could not understand what had happened.
