As a child I experienced many healings in Christian Science. One in particular was that of a broken wrist set by mental surgery, completely and perfectly healed in less than a week's time through Christian Science treatment. I remember my mother asking if I wanted a physician to set the bone or if I wanted to rely on God for the healing. I answered that I wanted to rely completely on God. A Christian Science practitioner was called for treatment.
Mother prepared a sling for me to wear for comfort and to support the wrist while I was at school. At that time I was in the third grade, and it was necessary to use the hand every day to write. This appeared to distress the teacher, and on the third day she sent me home, recommending that I not use the wrist and hand so freely. While walking home, I felt as though the bone in my wrist had moved back into place, and a sense of joy surged through me. I knew even before looking at my wrist that the healing had taken place. Where before there had appeared a slight protrusion, my wrist was now perfectly smooth, each bone in its proper place. Complete freedom followed immediately. I removed the sling and carried it home in my hand. Much to the teacher's surprise, I returned to school the next day perfectly healed.
Later, when I was in high school, I joined The Mother Church, yet somehow began to drift away from Christian Science. Although I relied upon it at times, I was not studying and practicing it consistently. Many false appetites appeared. An unhappy marriage, lack, and sickness in many forms were part of my experience, until it all climaxed in a nervous and physical breakdown.
