Christian Science has provided me with ample proof of its healing power.
In Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes (p. 218): "Treat a belief in sickness as you would sin, with sudden dismissal. Resist the temptation to believe in matter as intelligent, as having sensation or power." Obedience to this wise counsel saves much unnecessary suffering.
The first of two healings I have had in recent years was that of broken bones in my left foot. While helping a friend lift a very large transverse section of a tree trunk, I slipped on some wet leaves, and the whole section landed heavily on my foot. Immediately I realized the impossibility of an accident in God's kingdom. I assured my friend that all was well, and I drove my car home. Although two toes were broken and another badly crushed, I never at any time felt fearful. The ugly sight the foot presented was vehemently dismissed as a lie, and I persistently affirmed man's perfection as God's image. The foot was washed and bandaged. I did not change any of my plans for the day, and in the afternoon I papered a ceiling. In little more than a week the healing was complete—the bones set, the crushed toe filled out, and new toenails grew nicely.
