It was in December, 1922, that at Christmas a friend gave me the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. Being very busy, I did not begin to read it for about two months. But when I did, I recall acknowledging that because God is Spirit, the only creator, the universe and man are wholly spiritual, so no pieces of glass in front of two human eyes would enable me to behold reality better, for that had to be spiritually discerned. I was freed of needing glasses, which I had been told I could never do without. I continued my study, gradually subscribing to all the very helpful Christian Science periodicals, and had class instruction, which remains a continual inspiration.
Many other healings and blessings came into my experience. Severely frostbitten knees were healed one winter. The healing truth applied in this instance was (Science and Health, p. 300):"The temporal and unreal never touch the eternal and real. The mutable and imperfect never touch the immutable and perfect. The inharmonious and self-destructive never touch the harmonious and self-existent," and I never again had any difficulty from frostbite.
Acknowledging God as my Life, which never changes, I found the human period called change of life a free, happy, and harmonious time, well in accord with Hymn No. 148 in the Christian Science Hymnal:
