My testimony appeared in the Christian Science Sentinel of August 26, 1944. Since then, so many blessings and healings have come to me.
Christian Science was a great help to me in readjusting to the business world after I had served nearly five years in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II. I might mention that on several occasions during the war the corvette on which I served missed destruction by a matter of seconds, you might say—twice by torpedoes, once by an iceberg, and once by a rocky reef off the Bahamas during a hurricane in the middle of the night, while I was on watch. I always felt a sure sense of God's loving care and protection at all times, and the only damage to my ship was received when a disabled enemy submarine crashed into it shortly before the sub sank. Fortunately, it hit my ship above the waterline, breaking down a stanchion and denting the side, but doing no real damage.
I was a radio operator on the ship, and I am grateful that my only physical contact with the enemy during the war was to help rescue some sailors from the sea after several of our ships sank their sub, which crashed into our ship, as just mentioned.
