There is nothing mythical about Christ Jesus' life and works. True, much of what he taught and did runs counter to established theories regarding matter and what produces and controls its action. But simply because something seems new or revolutionary it should not deter the seeker for Truth. Throughout history and in many fields of knowledge new discoveries have upset what were believed to be immutable laws.
Jesus taught and demonstrated the existence of a higher spiritual law—the law of divine Mind—which, when understood, gives mortals power to control the body and its functions.
Mrs. Eddy writes: "Jesus of Nazareth was the most scientific man that ever trod the globe. He plunged beneath the material surface of things, and found the spiritual cause."Science and Health, p. 313; The great Teacher rejected the widely held theory that matter is the basic substance of the universe, and that it is animated by blind, self-evolved, physical forces. He understood all matter, including the mortal body, not to be objective reality, but a figment of the mortal, or carnal, mind, which this mind falsely sees as substance outside of itself. Matter is a mental illusion that counterfeits the real, God-activated and God-controlled universe of Spirit.
