A testimony appearing in a recent Sentinel (February 5) tells of a child's healing of dumbness as a result of three years of daily treatment by a Christian Science practitioner. Some healings appear to take longer than others. When a case does go on day after day with little or no apparent improvement, we usually want to know why.
Sometimes the explanation is that every treatment is like a hammerblow on a rock. Each one causes some minute breakdown in whatever is resisting the blows, but nothing shows on the surface. Then suddenly all the resistance collapses and the rock splits or the disease vanishes. This illustration has much truth in it, and it has encouraged many to persist with Christian Science treatment until the healing comes. But wrongly viewed, it could foster faith in the resistance and prolong the case.
What does Christian Science treatment do? It brings to bear on human consciousness the truth of God and man. God is the divine Principle, perfect Love, infinite Mind; and man is the reflection or manifestation of God.
