Effective Testimony

From the March 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Probably tens of thousands of Christian Science healings are occurring in the world every week. All contribute to showing that Truth is the universal panacea, the one remedy for every ill or discord. Is the world hearing enough about these demonstrations and being given the opportunity to learn how they came about? I know of a number of remarkable healings that have never been related at Wednesday testimony meetings or in the Christian Science periodicals.

One of the important purposes of testimonies is to communicate the fact that Christian Science harmonizes, heals, and saves, that it is relevant to human experience. Students of this Science cannot expect mankind to embrace it unless it is demonstrated in their daily lives and the world is made aware of these proofs. Mary Baker Eddy says in this regard, "If Christian Science lacked the proof of its goodness and utility, it would destroy itself; for it rests alone on demonstration." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 365; Also, in the Manual of The Mother Church she says, "Testimony in regard to the healing of the sick is highly important."Man., Art. VIII, Sect. 24;

The Wednesday testimony meetings indicate the vitality—or lack of it—of the membership of the local branch Church of Christ, Scientist. The lessons for the Sunday services are found in the Christian Science Quarterly, but testimony meetings are largely a local demonstration.
