Healings at Church Services

From the March 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Everyone attending a Christian Science church service can expect a healing because of that service. The spiritual truths and the love and compassion voiced in the hymns and in the readings from the Scriptures and from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and the prayerful, healing thought of the congregation, uplift worship and are powerful influences in wiping out from human thinking any erroneous concepts of God and man. Awareness of these healing influences and receptivity to them bring beneficial results.

One need not know of a specific need, nor does healing apply solely to bodily illness. There are many blessings that can be classified as healings. The church service may quiet a disturbed thought. It may remove a fear and give one a feeling of confidence, of joy and peace. It may point to the solution of a problem or reduce to nothing what seems an insurmountable problem.

Perhaps something in the service uncovers an erroneous thought regarding oneself and one's responsibilities, or concerning others. This enlightenment, and the wise resolve to look to God for further light, is healing that deserves acknowledgment. The service may lead one to forgive a wrong, or make effective the desire to lead a better life. The purifying truths Permeating the church services bring about many such healing changes in thought.
