Many years ago I learned about Christian Science through a neighbor who was not a Scientist. She was in charge of a rural lending library which had Christian Science literature, including some of Mrs. Eddy's writings. She knew about our sick baby who had been treated for malnutrition without success by two medical specialists and she asked me if I would like to try Christian Science, as she had read of its wonderful healings.
She showed me the listing in the Journal of the names of Christian Science practitioners throughout the world. She told me that if I wished to contact a practitioner it did not matter where he lived, since distance was no obstacle to the healing operation of Truth. As there were none living nearby, I selected one who lived some distance away.
I wrote him that I knew nothing about Christian Science, mentioned the condition of the child, and asked if he would help him. He replied he would be happy to give him prayerful treatment and asked that I obtain the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and read it from cover to cover. This I did, and I found that it appealed to me a great deal. I felt that our anxiety was partly to blame for the condition of the child.
