I became interested in Christian Science through my mother. She was a member of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, which I attended with her. My first healing was that of the tobacco habit. I had smoked for about twenty-one years. This healing was instantaneous. After attending a Wednesday evening testimony meeting, I went home and disposed of all my pipes, cigarettes, and cigars. The desire to smoke left me completely.
It was not until 1946 that I desired to become a member and to serve in whatever -capacity was helpful. I was grateful to teach in the Sunday School, act as assistant treasurer and head usher, and serve on the executive board.
Another demonstration was the healing of a hernia for which I wore a support for thirty years. Many times I was tempted to go to material medicine for an operation, but the desire to be healed through Christian Science was greater. With the loving help of several different practitioners at different times, my thought was finally elevated to a closer unity with divine Mind and I was healed. The reference which helped me most from Science and Health is on page 124, where Mrs. Eddy writes: "Adhesion, cohesion, and attraction are properties of Mind. They belong to divine Principle, and support the equipoise of that thought-force, which launched the earth in its orbit and said to the proud wave, 'Thus far and no farther.'"
