Protecting Our Idealism

From the February 1974 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Being an idealist should give joy. It is an open door to that wealth of ideas which forward the race. The idealist can truly follow Jesus' direction to "lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal." Matt. 6:20;

But the idealist sometimes finds that his ideals give him pain rather than joy. Why? Because the beauty of his ideals may be lost sight of in the shock of the errors they uncover. Knowing what men can be, he may weep over what men seem to be.

Idealism is like turning on a light in a dark, cluttered room.
