Our Lecture— A Banquet for the Community

From the June 1974 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When members of a branch church or society give a Christian Science lecture in the community, they invite their neighbors, friends and strangers alike, to share a feast of Love. Jesus illustrated this sharing of spiritual truth when he turned the water into wine at the marriage feast in Cana of Galilee. In the Glossary of biblical terms in Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy gives the spiritual meaning of "wine" as "inspiration; understanding."Science and Health, p. 598;

When we present a lecture in our community, what is it that we are sharing with our neighbors? Not a material banquet, but food for thought—inspiration and understanding. These nourish, with God's revelation of Himself, the consciousness of the attentive guest.

How do we support this occasion? The study of Christian Science brings an understanding of God as divine Mind, Spirit, Soul, and Principle, and also as Life, Truth, and Love. We can humbly open our thought to let each one of these synonyms for God reveal to us what has already been prepared to provide a satisfying and successful spiritual banquet.
