"After this manner . . . pray"

From the June 1974 issue of The Christian Science Journal

If we ask ourselves the blunt question Do I pray enough? can many of us conscientiously answer Yes? It may seem difficult always to give sufficient time to effective praying when the busyness of modern living makes great demands on our time and attention. But prayer should be, and is, the most important activity of our daily living. This doesn't refer to a sort of timid asking and doubtful waiting. That's not praying as Christ Jesus taught it.

We do not have to go anywhere special to pray. We can pray wherever we are— on the street, in the train, in the car, as well as at home or in church. The important thing, really, isn't where we pray but how we pray. And to whom? When? How often? And do we get results?

Prayer is a mental and spiritual lifting of our thought in communion with God. It's gaining a humble, yet powerful, sense of unity with all the love and good that God is. This is how Jesus prayed. And students of Christian Science are learning to pray in this way.
