Letters have come to The Mother Church inquiring whether Sunday School pupils should be taught how to heal, or if this teaching is the exclusive province of Primary class instruction.
The answer is yes to the first question, no to the second. Sunday School teaching should include basic instruction in how to pray effectively, including how to heal oneself; it is an indispensable part of the curriculum.
A letter composed by Mrs. Eddy's secretarial staff and originally printed in the Sentinel of July 6, 1935, exemplifies this point (p. 900): "To teach a child the words, 'Thou shalt have no other gods before me,' is a comparatively easy task. To teach a child the meaning of that commandment so thoroughly that he can and will prove in his living that he actually has no other gods before good, is the grand privilege of the Christian Science Sunday School teacher."
