Thirty-five years ago when my first testimony was published in The Herald of Christian Science, I gave thanks for my healing of an asthmatic condition of long standing. Today I can confirm with a grateful heart that this healing has proved to be permanent.
My first interest in Christian Science came through one of my father's customers who never tired of telling me this divine Science would heal me. I went with her to a Sunday service. It was the first Sunday in the month, and the reading of Article VIII, Section 1, from the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy, "A Rule for Motives and Acts," impressed me so deeply that I was immediately ready to take up Christian Science. The Rule states in part: "Neither animosity nor mere personal attachment should impel the motives or acts of the members of The Mother Church. In Science, divine Love alone governs man."
It was less the desire for healing than the desire to become acquainted with this religion, which requires such a high ethical standard of its members, that aroused my interest. I found more than healing; I found my way to God and His Christ. The Church Manual has become especially precious to me through this first experience with the wise instructions of Mrs. Eddy.
