Although I was reared in an orthodox family and attended Hebrew school, I could not understand the teaching of Judaism. Therefore, I did not continue in its study. Being without a spiritual foundation, I allowed resentment, envy, and a stubborn will to govern my thought. These erroneous thoughts may have contributed to a bronchial disorder.
For many years I endured great suffering from asthma until my wife, who was healed of a goiter through the prayers of a Christian Science practitioner, recommended this healing religion. I agreed to give it a trial by attending a Wednesday evening testimony meeting. There I heard testimonies of gratitude for healings through Christian Science treatment of various diseases, including some that were called incurable.
In my search for salvation from illness I rejoiced with the members and visitors in the foyer. One kindly gentleman in welcoming me asked if he could help me. When I learned that he was a Christian Science practitioner, I humbly requested him to treat me.
As I took up the study of Christian Science, my disillusionment with medicine and all material remedies yielded to an earnest reaching out for spiritual healing. I soon felt the regenerating power of the Christ, Truth, clearing the way for a glimpse of the real man of God's creating. In this uplifted state of consciousness the spiritualization of my thought began, and I was healed of the tobacco habit.
In Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy we read (p. 201): "We cannot build safely on false foundations. Truth makes a new creature, in whom old things pass away and 'all things are become new.'" Further on the same page we read: "The way to extract error from mortal mind is to pour in truth through flood-tides of Love. Christian perfection is won on no other basis."
As a result of studying Christian Science, the religion that reveals God as Life, Truth, and Love, I became an active member of a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and of The Mother Church.
In less than two years, with the help of a practitioner, the bronchial asthma vanished. In over forty-five years there has never been a return of that condition. I run, swim, and sing praises to God, with the conviction of Job (33:4): "The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life."
In more recent years I was healed through Christian Science of a severe illness that included much loss of weight.
There was much rejoicing at home and in church by others as well as myself for having witnessed proof of the indestructibility of spiritual man in a tangible down to earth way, thereby throwing off the old man of decrepitude and putting on the new man of vigor, strength, and health. With the great desire of being about my Father's business, I was reelected to the executive board and appointed clerk of the branch church, in which capacities I have been very happy and grateful to serve.
