WOMEN AT THE TOMB

From the April 1976 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The stone was heavy
(who would roll it away?)
but heavier than stone
was grief/fear.
Harder than stone
was shock /loss.

But the women came anyway
only to find
Love had been there before them.

Love had rolled the stone away.
That stone so huge/so heavy
had become the
resting-place of an angel
sitting lightly on its hardness.
"Fear not ye ....
He is not here: for he is risen"!
Angelic message
soars through the ages
glad to us
as to them.

Then the women
ran back swiftly/ lightly
lifted by joy
to tell the good news
news of death defeated
Christ Jesus
risen from the tomb!
