Having been raised in a Christian Science home and attended a Christian Science Sunday School, I have experienced the blessings and joys of this wonderful way of life.
I am very grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church since I was a young girl, and for being divinely led to have class instruction. This was before I was married. The inspiration and understanding gained from these lovely, progressive steps in Christian Science are most beneficial to me now as a young wife and mother. There have been many joyous healings and righting of situations for which I am deeply grateful.
My love for and understanding of Christian Science grew immensely when my husband went to Vietnam and I traveled to Thailand alone with an infant in order to live near him. In this challenging situation an understanding of God's love and protection for the three of us in our different environments kept us free from fear or doubt. We have had physical healings of burns, effects of accidents, skin irritations, colds, severe headache, nausea, swelling, and injuries from falls. We have also known God's protection when there were predictions of fever, and danger from traveling in a war zone. My husband was protected from injury while in combat.
I learned to listen humbly to God's guidance when we had to move six times in two years. This enabled me to quickly find the apartment or house that was perfect for us. Each move was made with eager anticipation, and with the knowledge that God, divine Love, would always meet our need.
One evening two years ago my daughter put her hand on a hot stove just after it had been turned off. I calmly and loudly sang all of Mrs. Eddy's hymns, knowing assuredly that my daughter was God's child, a perfect, spiritual idea, untouched by a false belief of burn. In about ten minutes the child quieted and sat in her high chair to eat supper. I soon noticed she was feeding herself with the hand that had touched the burner. There was no swelling or mark on her skin.
Recently I developed a severe allergy. It seemed so ridiculous to suffer from lovely flowers, grass, bushes, trees. I realized that no part of God's beautiful creation could cause discomfort for any other part of God's harmonious creation. After several days of reasoning and realizing how impossible it was for the belief of allergy to have life or power, I finally grasped the situation firmly in prayer to God. I sat up in bed, having passed most of the night without sleep and with difficult breathing. I closed my eyes and pondered every aspect of perfect God and perfect man that came to me. I removed all thoughts of a physical, fleshly body, and knew that the spiritual, harmonious image and likeness of Himself was all that God could create.
Hymn No. 144 in the Christian Science Hymnal was very helpful. I carefully pondered the first verse which begins:
In atmosphere of Love divine,
We live, and move, and breathe.
I fell asleep and woke up refreshed and did not think of the allergy again until several days later, when I realized I was completely healed.
Christian Science has met every need in raising our children and in establishing peace, harmony, and love in the family. I am truly grateful for Christ Jesus, the Wayshower, for Mrs. Eddy, and for the entire Christian Science movement.
