Testimonies of Healing

I originally became acquainted with...

From the April 1976 issue of The Christian Science Journal

[Original in French]

I originally became acquainted with Christian Science in 1948 when my wife's aunt invited us to a lecture. Even though I did not know English, I went with my wife. I was surprised by the atmosphere of joy, love, and spirituality. The lecturer reflected these qualities so much that in spite of my ignorance of the English language I was very attentive. The most marvelous part was that when I returned home, after an observation made by my wife, I realized that I had been healed of a very severe case of angina. This was my first Christian Science healing. I was very grateful to God for it, and from that day on we have continued to study this wonderful religion.

Now, I hope that the following testimony may help those who are looking for employment, especially people who are older than fifty years of age. Having lost my employment for the first time, I called for help from a Christian Science practitioner, and she prayed for me. On page 494 of Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes, "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." This passage helped me very much; also the fact that at that time I had just been accepted as a member of The Mother Church. Soon I had an opportunity to apply for employment. While waiting for a decision, I studied the following Bible passage (Col. 3:23, 24): "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance." I was accepted for the job, which amply met my needs.

I have received a great deal of joy and many blessings from serving in a branch church. Also, in spite of difficulties which might have prevented me from going forward, I had the good fortune of attending the first Primary class of Christian Science taught in Buenos Aires in 1965. This was a new birth for me, from every point of view. I was without work then, because my employers had gone bankrupt. However, in spite of my being over fifty years of age, I knew that God is omniactive and that with Him "nothing shall be impossible" (Luke 1:37). During the second day of class I was offered a job in which I am still employed. Yet another time I had had proof that God blesses His children infinitely.

Finally, my desire to take part in establishing services with others in a group of Christian Scientists in the western section of Buenos Aires was realized.

I cannot find the words to thank God for all that He has done for me and all His blessings to my wife and me. Our thanks go to Christ Jesus, who showed us the way, and to Mrs. Eddy, who demonstrated to us that Christian healing has not been lost, and who has given to us the textbook, Science and Health. In closing, I shall quote the words of Christ Jesus (Matt. 6:33, 34): "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow."
