I have had many healings through Christian Science and have given testimony to them at the Wednesday evening meetings in our branch Church of Christ, Scientist. Now I think I should tell in writing about my first two demonstrations of God's healing power, and how I happened to be introduced to this Christian system of healing through prayer.
At the age of sixteen I was learning to become a teacher of ballroom dancing. I found that I had developed cancer of the breasts. Later, the same disease developed on both of my hands. Several physicians and surgeons admitted they could do nothing for me.
My landlady was studying Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. One day she came into my room with this book in her hands and asked if I would like to read it, since there was no hope for me in medicine. I had never seen or heard of it before, but I said I would read it if she could spare it long enough for me to finish it. I started with the Preface and was so amazed, touched, and interested that I could not put the book down. I kept saying to myself, "Why, this is the truth!" I had always believed it but could never express it coherently. I was completely won over. No one could have pried that book from my hands. It took me three weeks to finish it.
