A Motto for Christian Scientists

Many people cherish favorite concise sayings to inspire them as they go about their daily round—mottoes that convey messages they feel are helpful in guiding their lives. In her Message to The Mother Church for 1902 Mrs. Eddy says: "I suggest as a motto for every Christian Scientist,—a living and life-giving spiritual shield against the powers of darkness,—

'Great not like Caesar, stained with blood,
But only great as I am good.'"

Then she continues, "The only genuine success possible for any Christian—and the only success I have ever achieved—has been accomplished on this solid basis." Message for 1902, p. 14;
