The Power of Divine Spirit

From the February 1977 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Mortal mind and physical force are the same. They counterfeit the spiritual forces of divine Mind. Mind, God, alone gives power. There is no real power in matter, no strength in the lever or hammer. Mrs. Eddy writes: "In divine Science, the supposed laws of matter yield to the law of Mind. What are termed natural science and material laws are the objective states of mortal mind. The physical universe expresses the conscious and unconscious thoughts of mortals. Physical force and mortal mind are one." Science and Health, p. 484;

All power, all force emanating from Mind, Spirit, is spiritual, wholly apart from its opposite, matter. Since Mind is good and infinite, there is no place for evil. There are, in reality, no evil, material forces at work. All power belongs to God, infinite good.

What about man? Physiologists regard him as a bundle of bones, nerves, and so on, or as a mass of atoms held intact by some cohesive force. The opinion of many theologians is that he is a melange of matter and spirit, the embodiment of spiritual qualities and faculties in a material form.
