I am very grateful for Christian Science and for Christian Science practitioners.
Early one morning in 1973 I felt ill with pain in the region of my heart. I asked for help from a practitioner. Apparently feeling something was wrong, my daughter had appeared in my bedroom at the moment I needed her. She and my husband attended to me, then telephoned a practitioner to ask for treatment. I remained unconscious for some time, and my daughter told the practitioner I seemed to have passed on. The next thing I remembered was hearing the practitioner's voice from afar off saying, "Before Abraham was, I am" (John 8:58). Although the practitioner was saying other things, these words of Christ Jesus were the only ones that came through to me. I remembered in the past having pondered them, accepting their meaning—that Life is eternal. Gradually I realized I was in my bedroom with members of my family around me and the practitioner was still speaking to me on the telephone.
From then on I worked with the practitioner to overcome great physical difficulties. At first my face was distorted and parts of the left side of my body appeared withered. I found it difficult to eat, and I lost some weight. I was able to walk only a few yards at a time. I spent a short period in a Christian Science House. This was a wonderful experience, as I was given much love and patient attention, day and night. There my study of the Bible, and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, always sustained me. Considerably improved, I returned home, where my daughter continued to nurse me, and my husband, son-in-law, and two grandchildren supported me in every way. I made an effort to carry on normally, although still in pain. Some weeks later I had what appeared to be a setback—but not for long. Again the practitioner was called, and continuous prayerful help was given.
