Replacing Symptoms with Evidence

From the June 1977 issue of The Christian Science Journal

We can shed material symptoms of ill health through recognizing the spiritual evidence of God's goodness just where those symptoms seem to be manifested. This exchange of false symptoms for true evidence is essentially a mental event. It takes place in thought. No matter what worrisome or painful condition may be facing us, we can at once begin dealing with it on a spiritually scientific basis and find relief and healing.

All that is present or can be evidenced is Spirit and its idea— this is metaphysically true. And because it is metaphysically true, it is literally true. The spiritual fact of being is that God is good and infinite, and whatever seems to contradict divine good is a mistake. And it is provably so.

Because God is eternally infinite, His allness can never decline or shrink. There's nowhere for it to withdraw to. It follows, then, that all that can actually be evidenced anywhere is divine good. Scientifically seen, no symptoms of disease or mental illness can ever emerge and break into God's allness. Just where worrying signs of disease seem to be, there is the perfect substance and presence of Spirit only.
