The author of the First Epistle of John knew how important it is to differentiate between mortal mind and God, divine Mind. He said, "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God."I John 4:1; Similarly, a great difference exists between the workings of negative, mortal mind and the practice of Christian Science.
We prove God's healing law, as explained in this Science, through the utilization in consciousness of the divine Mind's ideas. When we understand that individual consciousness is endowed by God alone and with all that expresses Him, we know that whatever does not reflect the divine intelligence is spurious. God is satisfied with His creation—with man—and man not only is satisfied with inherent good but is also complete without anything else.
"To heal, in Christian Science," Mrs. Eddy writes, "is to base your practice on immortal Mind, the divine Principle of man's being; and this requires a preparation of the heart and an answer of the lips from the Lord." On the same page she continues: "The thoughts of the practitioner should be imbued with a clear conviction of the omnipotence and omnipresence of God; that He is All, and that there can be none beside Him; that God is good, and the producer only of good; and hence, that whatever militates against health, harmony, or holiness, is an unjust usurper of the throne of the controller of all mankind. Note this, that if you have power in error, you forfeit the power that Truth bestows, and its salutary influence on yourself and others."Rudimental Divine Science, pp. 9-10;
