Uplifted Thought Is Practical

From the June 1977 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Mankind has continually sought to overcome restriction and gain freedom and a wider view. Christian Science supports this right endeavor. Freedom is gained, this Science declares, by understanding moral and spiritual law, their relationship to each other, and the practical bearing they have on human welfare.

Spirit, God, is the All-in-all of good, and true law derives from Spirit and so is spiritual. This law proceeds from divine Principle, Love, and remains forever the same. Never changing, it proclaims the structure of Life itself, the adhesive and cohesive unity of being. To begin to understand something of this law lifts thought away from the restrictive so-called laws of matter or material sense and gives us more freedom, more harmony, and a better livelihood. Like the outlook of someone climbing a hill—one's gaze from the top is free of the hill and takes in all that lies beyond, whereas at the foot of the hill the view is limited.

This spiritual law is concrete and demonstrable in terms of meeting the human need. Its message of good is contained in the prayer: "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."Matt. 6:10; God's kingdom, being spiritual, comes to the consciousness in harmony with the divine Mind.
