Toward the end of the last century my grandmother, who had been a cripple until that time, was healed through Christian Science treatment. I was fortunate to be brought up in a Christian Science home. My earliest recollections as a child are of the church services we had in our parents' lounge. We lived in the country, and the nearest branch Church of Christ, Scientist, was many miles distant. I would like to share a few of the healings I've experienced in recent years.
Along with the stress of human relationships, I developed a visible nervous disorder. I found it almost impossible to talk in public. Reading aloud was only accomplished in a hesitant, stammering manner, and I had a sort of uncontrollable head nod. It was a very slow healing, brought about almost wholly without specific prayerful metaphysical work for the condition but through prayer I was asked to do in connection with my branch church and the Christian Science movement. The first time I was able to stand up and give a very short testimony was in the kindly, understanding atmosphere of Christian Science class instruction. My condition required great patience, and at times I almost felt despondent, but Mrs. Eddy's words (Science and Health, p. 468), "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all," were a constant comfort. When the healing came, after some years, it was my husband, who is not a Christian Scientist, who remarked, "Do you know your head nod and body shaking have gone!"
One evening I returned home after traveling to a railway station where my daughter-in-law and grandson were to entrain for home after spending the school holidays with us. My husband was very disturbed to see visible signs of bone damage as a result of a fall I'd had earlier in the day. He was so worried that I had X rays taken. They showed signs of fractures to my left knee, right ankle, right hip, and right wrist. There was also a deep wound in the left knee.
