Some months ago the opportunity for promotion presented itself. In preparation, before applying for the post, I studied the Bible, and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. I began to see that God's law is a law of progress and that I did not really want material advancement—more power or prestige—but a greater understanding of God and man's relationship to Him. In other words, spiritual progress. I saw that nothing could interfere with this progress.
After I had sent in the application, various suggestions presented themselves, such as, they may prefer a younger man; perhaps they would prefer some new ideas, whereas you have been there a long time; perhaps someone will apply who is more highly qualified than you. I prayed about these and other suggestions and claimed that the only power was ever-present, omnipotent, divine Love. Love that created all ideas in their right place and maintained them there.
I was placed on the short list and called for an interview. Everything was going nicely.
