Finding the divine tone of the Hymnal

From the December 1978 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Sing!

The Bible teems with directives to worship God with song, to lift our hearts in praise to God. From Exodus through the Chronicles, the Psalms, and Isaiah there are admonitions to express gratitude with joyous singing for our Father's constant, loving, protective care.

To express grateful thanks in song is a way to purify thought and to humbly acknowledge the source of our blessings. An expression of our desire for spiritual renewal and revitalized inspiration, song can open an unobstructed highway to heaven. This valuable form of worship, nourished and cultivated, helps us attain the heights of spiritual comfort, peace, and purification. In I Corinthians we read, "I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also." I Cor. 14:15; This is true singing.
