From a human standpoint the world appears to be in a mess! Economies sag; governments virtually admit that they do not really have an answer; crisis seems to be endemic, and the sands of time, resources, and inspiration appear to be running out. The result is that, all too frequently, people abdicate from trying to deal with any but their own personal problems.
In contrast, however, to the world belief that bad tidings are appearing in seven ways and more, and that the one way out is abdication, the Bible has a reassuring statement: "The Lord shall cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thy face: they shall come out against thee one way, and flee before thee seven ways." Deut. 28:7;
Whatever its manifold disguises, there is in fact only one way in which evil can seem to enter experience, and that is as suggestion. Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, states, "All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is all-in-all." Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 468; And so it must follow that, in reality or even in belief, everything that comes to us does so at the point of consciousness. It is never out there, objectified in persons, places, events, or things, but is here, to be dealt with here, in thought and as mental conditions. From the standpoint of Mind, therefore, we can know that whatever partakes of the nature and substance of God constitutes our real and permanent experience and that anything else fits into the category of suggestion. It is this recognition of the one way in which evil operates — as suggestion — that, in turn, enables us to overcome it, making it flee from our presence in seven ways; that is, in its totality.
