"God's ideas unfold ceaselessly . . ."

Traveling the highway of progress

From the December 1978 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Any motorist who has inched along in congested traffic knows the feeling of release when the impasse is behind him. Even the most patient driver welcomes the steady forward motion possible on open road.

Desire for progress in all areas of our lives is normal. This desire hints at the spiritual fact that continuing progress is a distinctive feature of man's real existence as the child of God, immortal Mind. God's ideas unfold ceaselessly as individualized spiritual consciousness, man's true identity. Genuine progress in human experience is traceable to this divine activity. Whatever occurs in human thought that unites us more closely with the divine Principle, Love, secures our advancing position because we are thereby seeing and proving to a greater degree our real, God-empowered selfhood.

God has endowed man with spiritual sense and dominion. Recognizing and utilizing these, we will not linger in stalemate situations. With spiritual sense we can discern the harmony of God's ever-present spiritual creation and realize that our own true being is included in this reality. Then, with God-given dominion we can mentally reject whatever contradicts the fact that God creates only perfection in man. This pure mental activity, or prayer, brings out harmony in every needed way, right in our human affairs.
