Perfection is not stagnation

From the December 1978 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Perfect being. That's quite a concept! It accurately describes the true condition of man as God's image. But there may be a time in the developing understanding of the Christian Scientist when this concept causes him to think more deeply.

It may seem that "perfect" connotes "completed," "finished," and therefore static. Where is progress in this concept? To be perfect may be a wonderful state of being, but to human sense it can sound very much like a dead end. After all, where do you go from being perfect?

Feeling ill at ease with the idea of perfection stems directly from the universal belief that reality is material. Fortunately, mankind is being taught — through demonstrated Christian Science — that the one infinite Mind and its limitless spiritual creation constitute all that truly exists.
