Our native language breaks down language barriers

From the June 1978 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Mark records a number of promises Christ Jesus gave concerning his future followers—"signs" that would "follow them that believe." One of them is, "They shall speak with new tongues." Mark 16:17; And there is the correlative statement by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science: "God's essential language is spoken of in the last chapter of Mark's Gospel as the new tongue, the spiritual meaning of which is attained through 'signs following.'" Science and Health, p. 117;

To gain the spiritual meaning of "God's essential language" is surely a lifelong goal of all earnest Christians, Christian Scientists included. Thoughtful hours of prayer are devoted to this end by sincere students of Christ Jesus' teachings in many lands. Do some consider its attainment too difficult?

In reality, could God's essential language be foreign to man? To suppose so would be to conclude that God is alien to His own image and likeness. Surely God needs no interpreter between Himself and His own creation!
